A very chilly start to the morning, yet East Grinstead rocked up ready for the game ahead. Crowborough travelled and joined us at home for their first EVER woman’s rugby game. After having created a touch rugby team a few years ago, the women decided they were ready for the next level and decided to give full contact a go! With both sides having great numbers the match began! EG held a strong defence with some amazing tackles made by Jorja, Lynne and Dibs. After turning over the ball, Naomi scored an awesome try in the left corner of the pitch. This gave the girls an amazing confidence boost with some great line breaks from Liz, Angie and Izzie. As both EG and Crowborough settled into the game the scrums were connected and strong with a huge credit to Amy who did an amazing job at playing number 8. After winning some great penalties EG were able to nail another 2 try’s before half time credit to Dibs who has recently returned to rugby after a few years and Sophie H for our third try however we also conceded 2 great trys from Crowborough towards the end of the half.

The moment the whistle blew for the start of the second half, it was clear the EG girls had adrenaline flowing and were more ready then ever to take home this win. Sophie D and Liv entering the pitch on their first women’s debut made some cracking tackles and were getting stuck into the game from the get go! Elodie started the second half with an unbeatable foot race with the opposition from the half way point. Followed by some amazing steals by Ella gaining us the possession once again. With some amazing teamwork skills and tactical plays from Sian and Naomi. The ball flew over the oppositions head with a cross field kick and in came the G’s fighting for these try’s. Moments later in came 3 try’s for Emelia. Hatrick acquired!! Sian converts all three try’s with complete ease. Keeping Crowborough on the defence, EG were unstoppable. Ending the match with one last try from Elodie.

This was such an amazing game to watch for the EG and Crowborough fans with such great enthusiasm and gamesmanship from both sides. Thank you Crowborough!!!!
