Farnham v G's

Farnham v G's

Matt Marriott7 Dec 2022 - 10:28

35 - 10

This Sunday saw the ladies travel down to chilly Farnham for the first time. With a 16 woman squad in tow, the ladies all knew they were in for an intense shift.

A shakey start for the G's saw Farnham start strong, scoring a try in the first 10 minutes with some big hitting centres breaking through the G's defensive line.

Determined to hold them off, the G's thought back, dominating in the scrums with Addaway, Carrick and Sutton working harmoniously to drive back Farnham. Combined with some big tackles from the Lewis duo and Kraus, the G's held off a fast Farnham side for another 10 minutes.

Despite their efforts, a few breaks from the centres and down the wings saw Farnham score another 3 trys in the first half. Fortunately for the G's, the wonder of Wallis struck again with her holding up yet another try this match, acting as the catalyst for the G's first try of the match. With a great 22 drop out kick from Lewis, Kraus was fast on the chase to collect the ball and run it to the try line with great support from Oliver and Gayle available. This try ended the first half on a high for the G's with the score at 20-5 with a missed conversion. Could the G's bring it back in the second half?

Changing their plan of attack, the G's squad saw some movements with Lewis switching in to 9 with O'donoghue moving out to the centres and Shackel coming into flank with Muggeridge. These movements added a flourish of speed to the G's attack and added strength to the back line in defense. Still in fallback position, Wallis' 'Mr tickle' arms struck once again to hold up another early try attempt from Farnham despite efforts from the G's.

Keen to get the ball over the line, Farnham pressed hard with speed and some powerful hand offs, rewarding them with 2 trys. However, the G's kept going with some successful competing for the ball. Showcasing her iconic red panda style jackling, Lewis (Naomi) steals the ball in the G's own half and makes a speedy break, weaving through the gaps in the defense. With 2 players left to beat, could Lewis get through? Drawing the last 2 players in, Lewis was not alone with Wallis close behind offering the perfect support for a quick pop ball and a 30m sprint to score the G's second try of the match.

Sadly for the G's this was their last try of the match and Farnham managed to sneak in one final try leaving the score 35-10. A tough week for the ladies but they will come back fighting on the 18th of December against locals Horsham Lionesses. Congratulations to the BOTM Anika Kraus, FOTM Steph Shackel and POTM Naomi Lewis.
