EGRFC Women took the field in their first away game of the season against Horsham II Women.

The game started with an early try at 9 minutes for EGRFC scored by our scrum half, Bronwyn O’Donoghue. Some amazing team work got the ball to Bron who saw it over the line.

At the restart, EGRFC came along with force. The insane tackles and ball skills were superb from all the EGRFC women to keep Horsham from scoring. The women defended their try line as Horsham got very close to scoring but we managed to turn the ball over and kept possession.

Bronwyn came from nowhere to get the tackles in, Eloise Lucas (who is pretty new to the game) took the balls into contact with very little fear.

Many uncontested scrums later and Elizabeth McCarthy got the next try of the game. The first from her amazing hat trick. 10 - 0 to EGRFC.

Restart again came with Horsham putting full force in and they managed to get over the try line from a run down the wing. They got the try in the corner but it was unconverted.

The second half started with EGRFC once again defending and keeping the possession of the ball. Horsham came back with vengeance but this didn’t put EGRFC off.

The third try of the game came soon after from Holly Gunter with an amazing run, many hand offs and support from the team behind her.

This was converted by Sian Lewis. 17 - 5.

EGRFC came put in some hard hitting tackles from the forwards. Pod work coming through and getting the ball out from a ruck, getting the ball to Elizabeth McCarthy for her second try of the game. This was converted by Sian Lewis. 24 - 5.

This was followed very closely by the third for Elizabeth McCarthy. She ran from the half way line and got over the try line once again. Elizabeth converted her hat trick. We went up to 31 - 5 which saw the game go to the last restart before the final whistle.

The tackling from Holly Gunter, Jo ‘BJ’ Cox-Goodsell, Claire Sutton and Naomi Searle made sure Horsham did not get through.

With not long to go, Horsham got into our half and got close to scoring. But Naomi Searle cleared the ball, chased down by the team. Steph Shackel got the ball and made some superb runs.

Chippy making many a run past Horsham who just couldn’t get her down. She had pure determination to get the ball up the field. The force she showed was immense.

The ball got to Naomi with support from Natasha Gayle who then ran it towards the try line with support from the team. Sian was with Natasha who set the ball back in the ruck, protected. Sian Lewis was there to pick up and go and score the last try of the game. 36 - 5.

EGRFC came out on top winning their game. Remaining unbeaten in their league so far. Every single player who graced the field today showed determination and team work which shows in the score and the pure joy after the match.
