Pulborough went into their last league game of the season full of confidence off the back of a 47-7 win against Hove and a 50-0 win against Haywards Heath. Could East Grinstead’s u14s spoil the party?!
A brutal game was unfortunately decided by poor handling. East Grinstead went toe-to-toe with Pulborough and matched them on the pitch in every other area. Neither side were able to gain any real advantage and a half-time score of 7-0 to Pulborough reflected this.
The second half was more of the same, both teams tackling hard, rucking and jackling well. A well worked team try finished by Conor Sullivan kept East Grinstead in the game. More hard work saw East Grinstead camped on the Pulborough try line with more than one try scoring opportunity going to ground.
A final score of 21-5 does not reflect the closeness and competitiveness of this match and the team left disappointed knowing a chance to beat Sussex’s best had been missed. The boys should be buoyed by the fact that Pulborough said afterwards that they had not expected such a hard game and we were the toughest opposition they had played this season. We’re already looking forward to the re-match!
