With pitches flooded at East Grinstead, the u14s were fortunate to be invited to Horsham for a joint training session and match on the AGP.
Following some useful backs/forwards drills with live opposition, the two teams took to the pitch for a slightly shortened match.
Having not played any rugby for over a month the rustiness in the East Grinstead team was plain to see – a number of handling errors, turnovers, missed tackles and rucks lost meant a very narrow 12-10 lead at half-time for East Grinstead. William Blackburn and Radley Minter shared some choice words at the half-time break…
An improved performance in the second half saw more accuracy, direct running and stronger play in attack and defence. Highlights included a mauling forwards’ try finished by Radley Minter; a strong, tackle breaking run and score by William Blackburn; and a quickly taken, clever try for Max Jones.
A 36-10 win but a lot of work to do before our harder league games to come. A big thank you to Horsham for being so hospitable and allowing us to join them.
