Life is for Learning...

Sunday 13th November

Match nearly cancelled when Chichester could not field a team in the scheduled kick-off slot and no suitable postponement could be found. However, despite not being able to field what we may call our more seasoned players, G's coaches decided to play in the afternoon with many of our development players getting a long spell on the pitch. We had limited subs and some very new to rugby members of our team.

A terrific team effort against the current Sussex Champions !
Chichester have 2 "game changers" in their backline and they scored 5 of their 7 tries through them.
Scrums were disrupted by their scrum half not being a scrum half and their hooker continually having his foot raised but G's were dominant in the set pieces and both the Rucks and Mauls despite not having strength and depth in our bench to bring on fresh legs. G's Backline also not it's usual format with missing Fall-back, Centre's and Wing's we had a number of players playing out of normal position but with some great work ethic from them regardless.

Harvey Snashfold was immense once again this week.
Cain Levene had a great match but needs support runners and the score line may have been different.
James Young (playing at 15 instead of 10 and had an outstanding game... MoM) and Archie Neill tackled everything that moved and chased anything running. An injury to Alex Lowe and James Young moving back to 10 meant G's missed a full back - and against a back line like Chi's ...

2 of our players having only their second game of full contact 15 aside Rugby ever Ollie Johnston (on the wing) and Dan Bacon-Sallows (Lock) both showed great enthusiasm and were undaunted by the task of competing with such a strong opposition... Hats off to you gentleman.

The Chi coach admitted post match that the score line flattered them... ordinarily he may have rested either of his 2 stars but he felt he could not afford to. Take away their 2 'stars' and bring back a few of our seasoned players and the result may have been different... But that's Rugby boys, you can only play what you have on the day and Life is for Learning.

Let's build on this with some self belief boys, the ability is there for sure !!
