East Grinstead 2s arrived at Pulborough RFC, full of confidence from the previous week’s victory over Crowborough. As we unpacked our equipment and headed to the pitch for warm-up, it was blatantly clear that the pitch would cause a challenge from the slope, depending on which way we played.

As kick-off approached, EG2s were hoping to take advantage of the First-Half playing down the hill. This advantage soon paid off within the first few minutes of the game with Oliver Roberts diving over in the corner for a try. Unfortunately this was short lived with Pulborough quickly getting back on the score sheet. EG2s were not deterred by this, once again, with Ali Moffatt picking a nice line off our No.10 to regain the lead. However, Pulborough soon drew level once more which gave them the belief, going onto dominate the rest of the first half, running in a further three trys. Pulboroughs dominance was also helped by too much space made available down the flanks, something EG2s would need to address in the second half.

With much to discuss at half time and the realisation that EG2s would now be playing uphill, fresh legs were needed and substitutions made. However, with only a few minutes gone in the second half Pulborough went on to score another try, this being their sixth of the game. Pulborough went onto score a further two with all converted apart from two. EG2s never gave up and scored two more of their own in between their opponents scores. These from Chris Taylor with the third and Reggie Harris with the fourth and final try.

With all of EG2s tries going over in the corners, kicking today proved difficult and unfortunately no conversions were registered.
A tough day at the office was not helped by a nasty injury to Reggie Harris who needed support to leave the pitch. Everyone from players to supporters wish him well in his recovery.

EG2s will regroup, train hard and take any positives from this match into the next league game.
