Final Score: Burgess Hill 13 – 5 East Grinstead
Author: DotD (unfortunately, me)
On Saturday, we went head-to-head with league leaders Burgess Hill in what turned out to be a tight, physical, and slightly frustrating contest. Both teams crossed the line once, but while Burgess Hill made theirs count, we decided to keep things interesting by missing the conversion and generously gifting them two penalty kicks. Because why make life easy for ourselves?
Defensively, the lads put in a proper shift. We fronted up, made our tackles, and didn’t let the league leaders run riot. Burgess Hill had to work hard for every point, and the scoreline showed it.
Offensively… well… let’s just say the ball and I are no longer on speaking terms.
Handling errors were the theme of the day, and I personally contributed to Burgess Hill’s confidence by repeatedly dropping the ball like it was allergic to me. If there was an award for “Most Impressive Fumble Under No Pressure,” I’d have won it comfortably.
Despite the mistakes, we stayed in the fight, scored a solid try, and kept the game competitive right to the end. Burgess Hill showed why they’re top of the league, but we showed heart, effort, and just enough chaos to keep things entertaining.
Final score: 13–5
Lessons learned:
• Catch the ball
• Don’t give away penalties
• Catch the ball
On to next week.
