After a productive pre season the 2nd XV started the season with a home fixture against Shoreham 2nd XV. With the first team also playing at home and a large crowd building at HQ the team were keen to put on a performance and put the last 2 months hard work into practice.
First and foremost I would like to thank Shoreham for coming down and giving the squad a test given they had had a few drop outs throughout the week. We are incredibly thankful for this and we have opted to nominate Shoreham 2s for the kick on award this week.
The 2nd XV put on a fantastic performance walking away with a 63-0 win, setting exactly the right tone for the season. A number of stand out performances which included Luke Maker and Chris Taylor both scoring hat-tricks. The Brambletye Aussies Harry and Tom having fantastic debuts with Harry scoring 2 trys starting off life at EG well. Our semi broken, fully balding DOR Ryan making a return to the pitch and scoring shortly after being on the field. A big shout out to both George and Ky for opting to play for Shoreham when needed (despite Ky almost decapitating the skipper 1 minute after switching jerseys - didn't take that one personally at all mate!). The forwards carried hard all game with shout outs for Archie and both Harrisons and the backs were simply sublime. A fantastic start to the season and I am thoroughly looking forward to see what this team can achieve over the next few months.
Our young starlet 10 Noah Roberts was taken off the field in the second half with what looked like a very nasty injury. Thankfully I am happy to report that it was not as bad as it looks and we look forward to having you back out on the pitch with us again soon mate!
Now we look ahead to next weekends fixture against Holbrook away where we shall continue to build on our fantastic start.
