HAPPY NEW YEAR
All of us at East Grinstead RFC wish all our members a very happy new year both on and off the pitch.

With a few bits of news to give you all, I thought we would do a short RRU to kick of 2025 so you don’t miss us too much!!!

SENIOR RUGBY
Both our men and women are straight back into action this weekend as both look to burn off the turkey as they host tough opposition. on Saturday, our 1XV welcome Weybridge Vandals and our Vets welcome Uckfield in the cup. Both games kick off at 2pm, so get yourself up to the club!!!

On Sunday, our women host Seaford in a huge game which always produces a close result. This game also kicks off at 2.

PRE MATCH FOOD
This Saturday, there will be no official pre match meal, but the BBQ will be fired up and serving food before and during the games.

However, we are already taking bookings for the 18th of January where we will be serving a wonderful feast (I have sneaked a look at the menu and it is not worth missing!!). More details will be released in the next few days, but if you want to book an early seat, just email events@egrfc.com

SAD NEWS
For those of you who may have missed the email last month, we have heard some sad news about the recent passing of two of our much loved East Grinstead RFC family.

Chris Williams
Chris played second row for the club for many years and became only our 3rd club secretary in 1979 (following Brian Desmond and David Packer) serving the club for 15 years. He passed away at the age of 82. His funeral is at 11.30 on Thursday 16th January at Easthampstead Park Crematorium, Wokingham RG40 3DW.

Maureen Scourfield
Maureen was Team Secretary for several years when Colin was 1XV captain and has faithfully supported the club in a multitude of ways over the years. Another club legend, Roy Windibank, sums up all our thoughts.

“My wife, Monica, and I are devastated to hear of the death of Maureen Scourfield. Not only was she a wonderful family friend but in my playing days Maureen and Colin were the heart and soul of the club. Maureen used to send out all the selection cards to the players, no easy communications then! The Club as it exists today owes a great deal to the commitment and energy of this remarkable couple. God bless them both.

TED SENIOR FOUNDATION
One of our most electric club wingers of the last decade and possessor of the biggest sidestep, James Mitchell (aka Titch), is hosting an event in aid of the Ted Senior Foundation on the 11th January.

The Foundation are an amazing charity who support student mental health through sports clubs. To find out more, visit https://www.thetedseniorfoundation.org

England 8, Ben Earl, has donated a signed England shirt which will be auctioned off on the 11th at Wasps FC following a game between United Hospitals RFC (I believe Titch is playing) and Cardiff Medicals RFC, with the charity setting a reserve of £500 on it. If any of our members wanted to put in a cheeky bid to secure this awesome England stash, I know Titch would be extremely grateful.
