Last Friday (27 September 2019), East Grinstead RFC hosted a fun Primary School TAG Rugby festival for over 200 local primary children.
We were not so lucky with the weather this year, the rain came down but the rugby spirit was high. Girls and boys from Year 3 and 4 and girls from Year 5 and Year 6 took to the pitches to enjoy an afternoon of tag rugby, many for their first time. The main objective of TAG rugby is to have fun and enjoy learning to play rugby whilst experiencing the responsibility of being a member of a team.
Stephen Floodgate, Junior Chairman, East Grinstead RFC, who coordinated activities on the day said: “It was really a fantastic turn out and all teams played well together, with great enthusiasm, commitment, determination and a high level of sportsmanship. We were very proud of their efforts but more importantly, loved seeing them enjoy the wonderful game of rugby!”
Steve Hill, EG School Sports Coordinator said: “It was great to see ten of our local East Grinstead Primary Schools supporting the event at the East Grinstead Rugby Club, with over 200 children playing and learning the skills of TAG Rugby. A big thank you to Stephen Floodgate and the great club coaches for volunteering their time to coach the children and to those students from Imberhorne School that helped – on their inset day!”
Primary Schools: St Peters, Baldwins Hill, Ashurst Wood, West Hoathly, Estcots, Meads, Blackwell, Crawley Down, Copthorne and St Marys.
