EGRFC WOMEN VS BA-BAS - 24th October 2021

The game got off to a superb start. We held possession and kept the ba-bas on their toes.

Elodie, our very own puppy, scored the first of her three tries. This try saw Elodie run half a pitch to score a superb try.
Sian Lewis then converted which started the score at 7-0.

Sunita Cleary, with a fantastic run, handing off through defence, a prop having a trial on the wing, got the ball through the ba-bas defence with support from Holly Gunter and Ella Scott. We got pushed out to give a line out to the ba-bas.

With no lifting in the line outs, Amy Muggeridge placed at the front and with her superb height, won the line out. The team got the ball down the line where Elodie scored her second try.

Again, this was Converted by the superb Sian Lewis.

14-0.

Chi ba-bas managed to get into our half. But Naomi and Elizabeth smashed the tackles, got the ball out to Elodie where she ran in another try.

It was again Converted by Sian Lewis.

21-0

We saw a number of doubling-up tackles throughout the game, but a stonking double tackle from Bron and Naomi, stopped their try.

The ba-bas did eventually break through our tireless and fantastic defence to get their only try. This was converted.

21 - 7

A penalty was awarded to the ba-bas after the restart. This pushed us back and they ba-bas made ground.

We then won the ball back as Scotty locks the ball when chi ba-bas knocked it on.

Scotty then ran in another brilliant try but was short of the try line so had to pick it up and actually take it over the line. Let’s just say she got ‘dick of the day’.

This was unconverted so the score was 26-7.

Some awesome play from the team at re-start, the ball skills and team work was truly awesome. This is when Elizabeth McCarthy broke through the opposition and scored our 5th try of the game.

Once again, Sian Lewis converted the try which brought us up to 33-7.

The forwards worked hard to get the ball out through crash balls, team work in the rucks and using their driving force to move the g’s further up the field. This lead to another amazing try from Scotty as the forwards got the ball out to the backs who got the ball to wing and for Scotty to score another try under the posts.

The score now 38 - 7.

Very quickly after the restart, Holly Gunter broke through the defence where she offloaded the ball to a keen Scotty for another try which was converted by Sian Lewis.

45-7

The newbies Beth Groves and Chippy played some fantastic rugby. Beth not shying away from the rucks and Chippy running at the defence as if she had been playing the game for years.

Eloise Lucas getting stuck in whilst pairing up with Amy Muggeridge. Amy, leading the pack and supporting her teammates, giving fantastic advice and support to all. The scrums were uncontested due to injury but with each scrum gave an opportunity for a quick ball out by Bron and down the line. This lead to the last of Scotty’s try’s of the game.

50 - 7

The last try came in from Bronwyn O’Donoghue. The team set up this try with amazing support play from the whole team. The ball was short of the line where the pack drove forward. The ba-bas put up a great defence. This formed a ruck, went to ground where Bron then received the ball and got it over the line with pure force to score the final try of the game which was converted by the lovely Sian Lewis.

Final score - 57-7
