EG WOMEN’S FIRST HOME MATCH IS A SUCCESS
East Grinstead 37 – 0 Sussex Police

Last Sunday, 27 October 2019, saw the EG Women’s team grace the field in their first home game of the season against Sussex Police Women.

It was a fantastic game and the women showed their skills off to the crowd and showed just how far we have all come along.

East Grinstead set the game off with an awesome display of team work to get the first try of the game on the score board. With speed and great passing, we managed to get it over the try line - try scored by ‘Hobbit’ Naomi.

The game was played with many scrums being given. The scrums were contested at the start, but we changed it around to ensure that this development game was just that.

A penalty was awarded to the Sussex Police, so we went in for a scrum. The scrum was turned over and we gained possession again.

With a superb bit of handling skills and teamwork, Holly Gunter gave a fantastic pass from the back of a ruck to Suzi Turner who scored the second try of the game.

The conversion was kicked by Amy Muggeridge and we went up to 12-0.

Sussex Police didn’t give it to us easy. We ended up in our 22 and had to fight with great defence to get them away from scoring a try. Hobbit and Sian worked together, and hobbit kicked the ball into touch. East Grinstead won the line out and used it to enable the third try to be scored by Tracey.

We used pod work to get ourselves through the oppositions defence which worked incredibly well. Support play was brilliant. The ball got out too Little Jo where she ran from the half way line to score an absolutely superb try right under the posts.

A further try was scored by Shelley after a cheeky steal of the ball.

Emma Hultman narrowly missed scoring a try when she did a brilliant run of half the pitch only to be tackled into touch right near the try line.

Play carried on and another scrum was given - we turned this ball over and got it out quickly thanks to Ella Jacobs. Ella in her first game with the women where she played scrum half and smashed it. The pod work came into play again as Jo Cox and Jen hit the defence hard.
The support play was brilliant and got the ball to the backs. This time it was Holly Gunter who scored the try after running half the pitch to get the last try of the game.

In the last 5 minutes we dropped down to 10 a side due to injuries. The Sussex Police made ground and East Grinstead did a brilliant job in holding them back.

But then the Referee, Andy Poole, received the ball and decided to have a cheeky go at playing with the opposition. He got the ball down the line for THE OPPOSITION and gave them more ground but we were ready for it.

The final score -
East Grinstead 37 - Sussex Police 0

WOM - Ella Jacobs
DOD - Suzi Turner
