Why do you play rugby?

I actually started as a touch rugby player back when the women’s contact hadn’t been brought into play. A friend recommended it to me, and although I was incredibly nervous, I came along and I’ve never looked back. I especially loved moving into contact as it really gave us all a chance to try an opportunity that not all women are given.

I’m not quite sure anything I could say would give this sport the commendation it deserves, but the way it constantly pushes you to better yourself, and the connections you form from those rainy-day training sessions really bind me to it. It’s one of the only sports I’ve played where I feel like I’m going on a pitch not just as an individual, but as a pack. The confidence and friendship I’ve gained from training with these women is incredible, and when it comes to making me happy, nothing comes quite as close (except maybe the post-training mud slides).

Life outside East Grinstead RFC

I partake in drama and music and attend an academy for it every Saturday. I also love to read and am hopefully off to study English next year at university. I’d quite like to travel a lot and am hoping to live in a few foreign countries as I age like fine wine.

Who’s your favourite player?

My favourite player is probably Zoe Aldcroft and because of these five words: look at her game face! Also, the way that girl handles a ball is INSANE!

What’s your favourite rugby moment?

My favourite rugby moment would probably have to be the first time we actually played together as a team in a development tournament. It was honestly so surreal for us all to have made the transition from training and messing around together, to diving at other teams and being finally able to put what we’d been taught into practice. The reassurance and support we gave each other was insane. We managed to do really well and I think it’s a pinnacle moment for us as a team as our confidence and love for rugby just further developed.

What’s your advice to younger East Grinstead RFC players coming through?

Honestly just do it, it’s the best feeling. You’ll be welcomed with such open arms, especially at a club like this and the mud actually isn’t as gross as it looks, I promise.

What is the Best Thing About East Grinstead RFC?

The sheer amount of joy that rugby brings to these people. The atmosphere is almost always just crackling with this energy and happiness. I’ve met some of the most genuine and sincere people at this club and to try and describe it in such a short amount of words is near impossible. Just the best place to play watch or chat about this sport.

In February 2020, Georgie was picked for the Sussex Development training programme.
