This Sunday the women faced their biggest rivals of the season for their third and final encounter! The team traveled down to Sunny Seaford and what an afternoon it turned out to be!

With a short and sharp warm up the squad looked ready as ever. The whistle blew and very quickly, G's used their forward pods to drive up the pitch and set up for their one and only, N.Lewis, to cross the line for the first try of the match which was converted nicely by S.Lewis.

With the wind on our side and some excellent hands from May-Miller and R. Wallis, the ball made it into the safe hands of G's captain S.Shackel. Shackel was back to her old tricks and backed her speed to run around the defence, scoring again with another great conversion from S.Lewis making it 0-14.

East Grinstead taking the ball well from the restart, Gs using the forwards to battle their way up the middle of the pitch. A few good moments from Seaford and Gs found themselves on the back foot. With an absolute act of brilliance S.Lewis delivered a 50:22, bringing G’s back into great attacking position with a line out. Lovely quick work from Byrne and O’Donoghue strongly maintaining possession, Carrick went over the white line for her first try of the game. S.Lewis was on top form converting making the score 21-0 to East Grinstead.

Another restart with more strong carries from Jacobs, Gould and Hulst combined with Pullen and Pellett doing a great job of keeping hold of the ball. With a high hit from Seaford, N.Lewis did her famous quick tap and go to gain meters for Gs. With some great support play from the pack, the space appeared out wide. Shackel delivered a perfectly timed pass for our new speedster Neill who made a stunning run down the wing to score with the conversion narrowly missed by Lewis.

Some more fast and clever play meant the ball found its way back into the hands of Niell fairly quickly allowing her to score another try down her wing making the score 31-0 to East Grinstead.

With a high ball caught, Pullen gave the team some meters with a strong carry. Another excellent 50-22 from S.Lewis saw a line out for G's 15m out from the try line. A perfectly executed line out, lead to a strong maul from all the forwards, which culminated in Carrick going over the line to secure an excellent team try which was converted again by S.Lewis making it 0-38 at half time.

Heading back out with a few changes to bring fresh legs onto the pitch, Shackel waited no time to get the scoreline moving again with another try down the wing. The remainder of the second half saw the try fest continue for the G's with some excellent runs from R. Wallis carving her way through Seaford defence from the kick off to score her first try of the game. Poor tackling technique from Seaford in their own 22 allowed N.Lewis to perform another iconic tap and go to score under the posts once more.

With a few more changes, the scrums become a battle but with the fresh legs of Sutton,Teasdale and McCarthy, Seaford were no match for Gs today. With Millers rush up defence and Quirin holding the wing, Seaford had no chance of breaking through. Another great kick chase from Carrick saw her collect and weave to score herself a hat trick under the posts with yet another conversion from S.Lewis making it 0-64.

But was there time for more? With 10 mins left on the clock, Gs made some changes once again, bringing, Hulst, Jacobs, Pullen & C.Wallis back onto the pitch, the G’s went from strength to strength. With more excellent link up play between the pack and the backline. Carrick and the Lewis’ were off again, showing a brilliant display of togetherness and teamwork. Doing the simple stuff right, N.Lewis got her third of the day. S.Lewis getting our final points of the afternoon making it 0-71.

Bringing the match to a close Seaford found some space and finally made it into Gs 22s and found the white line after some relentless forward pods scored a scant consolation, making the final score 5-71 - G's biggest win of the season!

The team are now back to training this week and ready to put in the work for our game against local rivals Crawley who we face on Sunday the 14th. Support as ever is always welcome.

Talking of support, a big thank you to our travelling supporters and our wonderful photographer, Ben Hardisty!
