Beccehamian v G's

This Sunday saw the women head to Beccehamians to face them for the first time this season. The match started with a burst of energy from Beccehamians. A lightning-fast run down the wing saw them break through East Grinstead's defense, securing an early lead with a try within the first minute of play. However, the G’s responded well with the forwards exhibiting strength in the scrums, laying a solid foundation for their backline. Just six minutes in, relentless forward pods allowed for O'Donoghue to power over the line, equalising the score at 5-5.

Building momentum, impressive runs from the Wallis duo broke through Beccehamian’s defense with the younger sister scoring under the posts allowing for Lewis (S) to convert and extend their lead to 5-12. The remainder of the first half was marked by an intense back-and-forth between the two sides. East Grinstead's scrum held firm, thanks to the strength of Sutton, Pellett, and Teasedale in the front row. However, Beccehamians' slick backline manoeuvres allowed their centre to break through and level the score with a try under the posts.

With halftime looming, East Grinstead intensified their attack on Beccehamian’s backfield. A botched exit kick from the opposition fell into the hands of Wallis (C), who capitalised on the opportunity to secure her second try of the match. Yet, Beccehamians swiftly retaliated with a converted try, leaving the score deadlocked at 19-19 going into halftime.

The second half saw a shift in fortunes for East Grinstead, as injuries plagued their squad, forcing scrums to go uncontested and reducing the teams to 14 players each. This turn of events favoured Beccehamians, who managed to score three tries within the first 25 minutes of the half.

G’s continued to fight with Wallis demonstrating her speed once again, completing a hat-trick with a try in the 50th minute. However, with injuries mounting and the win looking out of reach, G’s requested to call the game early and Beccehamians agreed, making the final score 36-24.

The women will have their fourth and final match of March this Sunday at home against Sutton and Epsom - come down and support them to get back to winning ways!
