Once again EGRFC were delighted to host this annual Memorial match for the local schools.
Both teams arrived in good time for preparation; Sackville with an impressively strong squad whilst unfortunately Imberhorne had suffered a number of player injuries leaving them light on numbers. None the less, both teams were up to the challenge and the match got underway timely.
From the start the pride and passion for representing their school showed for players on both sides. Ball was contested fiercely yet fairly by both teams in their friendly rivalry.
On this occasion though the day clearly belonged to Sackville, their Backs in particular maintained fabulous structure and ball distribution to release impressively fast runners for repeated tries, 10 in total!
Imberhorne did not go without success, the Forwards showed great resolve and strength in frequently getting the upper-hand at the breakdown and set-piece scrum. This however was not enough to secure them more than their single Try.
It is heard frequently the phrase; “ …the score does not reflect the effort levels.“ and on this day that applies. Sackville really were the Team of the day when all came good for them and showed great humility in success. But, Imberhorne gave it their all and played right to the very end contesting every ball and chasing every runner demonstrating strength in character. Both Teams of players should be very proud of the representation of their Schools and EGRFC look forward to welcoming them back over the coming years.
