The sun was shining.......
A great day all around
A beautiful day for rugby and the last game of the season for the u17’s against local rivals Hayward’s Heath. With the u16’s bolstering the squad, expectations were high for a strong finish to the season.
Hayward’s Heath started the stronger, enjoying early possession and territorial pressure. The penalty count against EG was a real issue and Heath built a lead on the back of it.
After 15 minutes, EG began to settle into the game. Some strong carries & good hands saw Henry Aronson score. The conversion was missed, but momentum began to swing in EG’s way and Caleb Rebelo scored a superb solo try to level the score. An Ollie Adams penalty and tremendous solo efforts from Ben Beard & Henry Aronson, in for a second try, gave EG a 25-10 lead at half time.
The u16’s in the side performed outstandingly well and contributed to the score significantly in the second half. Ben Saunders, Louis James, Ben Hogan & Ethan Carrick all crossed the line. Matt Tompkinson made a great impact & put Olly Jones in for the final try of the game. Michael Presland & Ben Stone carried superbly and Ollie Adams ran the show at 10 really well, contributing 11 points with the boot. Dan Harding was outstanding in a man of the match display.
This was an impressive performance and bodes well for next year with this exciting group of players.
Huge credit to the EG boys that played for Hayward’s Heath to ensure the game was competitive throughout. True rugby spirit and a credit to the club.
