102 - 12
Having been knocked out of the cup by an excellent Horsham 3’s side two weeks ago, we were eagerly anticipating this rematch at HQ on Saturday. Things are tight at the top of the league, and we went into this match knowing that a win with a good number of points would keep us in touch with the top two. Having arrived at the club with my trusty fork, my first job was to try and get rid of some of the puddles! Having walked the pitch with the ref, he was happy to proceed if I did a bit more gardening, at which point I realised I had three large blisters on my sensitive hands - this was by far my worst injury of the afternoon!
We tore into Horsham from the off, and scored 16 tries over the course of the match. In no particular order (I think this is right) Jonny Gibbs x 6, Tom Sandys x 2, Matt Williams x 2, Matt Marriott x 2, Tom Kiernan, Mike Unsworth, Matt Brooke and Connor Leggat were our try scorers - Yes, that does say Gibbs x 6!
Horsham played every moment of the match and were a credit to their club. They scored two good tries of their own - one real beaut from their 12 after a lovely chip and chase. Must also thank our third team boys who stepped in to help them out with numbers!
I was tempted to give Unsworth MotM for scoring the first ever try in his 62 year playing career, but the glory must go to Jonny Gibbs, scoring six on his first match back after a horrendous time with illness, You are my hero bro! DotD goes to Shed for scoring against us! I gather Joey might have broken his ribs - Don’t mess with the Marriotts!!!
Early KO at Hellingly next week! Please do everything to make yourself available as I think numbers are going to be an issue.
