After last week’s error strewn performance, G’s 2’s were determined to put things right against Burgess Hill who had beaten Eastbourne 100 - 0 last weekend. It had been a crazy week for injury and unavailability with an unbelievable 40 players out across the club by the time KO arrived. Still, warm up went well, and after a fantastic early converted score from the forwards who mauled beautifully all game, confidence was high. Hill however are a good side and came roaring back with a lovely score of their own down the left. Things were in the balance until Hill again scored a powerful try to take the lead.

G’s were playing well however, and our offloading game was making yards. One lovely move saw the ball through at least five pairs of hands before Marriott broke through, offloaded again to the on-rushing Chris Pentney who battered over with his first touch of the game having come on moments before. Ben again converted to take the lead at the interval 12 - 10.

Things were looking really promising and many of last weeks errors were a thing of the past, but it was Burgess Hill who scored a quick fire penalty and then a converted try wide on the left. This was against the run of play and was very disappointing, but heads didn’t drop and for the next half an hour, all the pressure was being exerted by G’s, but time and again we were repelled. The ref finally awarded a penalty in front of the sticks which Ben stroked over to put us within five and 10 minutes to play. Just like last week, there was only one team in it now, surely it wouldn’t happen again?

A lovely run up the left so nearly saw Gibbs clear. Runs from Pentney, De la Hey and the excellent Crawley-Moore gave much excitement, but it was Hill who scored a well worked counter to once again put the game out of reach.

Thank you so much to all the lads who stepped up to fill holes this week - you were all brilliant! I was so much happier than after last Saturday’s result. Keep building like this and the first win will come soon. Several contenders for MoM; Will DLH was everywhere in attack and defence, Chris Pentney caught the eye after he came on, both centres did superbly considering the 10 minutes they had to practice, but my MoM goes to Max Crawley-Moore for an outstanding game in attack and defence - well done buddy.

DOTD, quite literally, goes to Tom Kiernan who got kicked in the most tender of places. The most amazing moment followed when Mark Vine promised quick relief with a magic medical move??? The near orgasmic look on Tom’s face made me quite jealous, and certainly did the trick!!
