G’s twos have been a really nice settled side this season, with all players comfortable with each other and their roles. This week however, due to injury, Easter holidays and birthday parties(!!!!!), our much settled side was seriously disrupted - especially in the back line. So it was with a small amount of apprehension that we travelled to Holbrook in the last league fixture of the season. Any hope we had that Holbrook were suffering the same holiday unavailability was soon shattered when the ref told me they had nine subs, but we knew we could still beat this talented Holbrook outfit for the second time in as many weeks.

We kicked off up the slope and both sides came out of the blocks at full tempo. things see-sawed for a while, but Holbrook showed huge passion and physicality and started to shade the opening exchanges. Things took a turn for the worse when Tommy Bowden, pack leader, was knocked out cold - Geordie came on to shore things up. Still, good defence kept the oppo out until a scuffle on halfway distracted a few and Holbrook broke a couple of tackles to score the first points of the day. Stung into action, we started to play in the right areas and apply some concerted pressure of our own and it wasn’t long before Scotty powered over, Jordan converted and the scores were level at 7 - 7.

Although we were not playing with anything like the composure and power we have been used to, I think we all thought that we were in the ascendancy and more scores would follow, and indeed in the third quarter, two gilt edge chances (where it looked easier to score than not) were inexplicably thrown away and it was Holbrook who seized the initiative with a score of their own. Desperate to get back into the game, silly mistakes and inaccuracys foiled us time and again and it was Holbrook who finished the game off with another well taken score.

Apologies to the guys who came to watch hoping for another feast of sumptuous rugger - I know it was horrid to spectate on such a shambles, but we will play better in the cup final - I promise!

Bravery award goes to me who dislocated my pinky, considered asking Rodders to put it back in, before doing it on my own - What a hero!!

Our first team are playing their cup final this weekend (22nd) at Chichester, and then it is up to us to close the season with a win at Uckfield against Haywards Heath on the 29th. Please all come and support, it makes such a difference to have you all there.
