New Coaching Structure for 2018/19 Season!

We are delighted to announce some changes to the coaching structure for the coming season. I have been formally appointed Director of Rugby and will continue to look at how we improve rugby across the club as a whole.

In terms of senior rugby, we have appointed Joint Head Coaches, Ben Swadling and myself. In appointing two people to the role it is envisaged that we will be able to create a training and learning environment that was not achievable with a single person. This should allow for greater individual feedback and analysis from coaches and thus improve player and team development.

We believe that as a pair we compliment each other well and between us have a broad skill set. We are both extremely excited by the opportunity and helping the club and players progress. In addition we will be ably assisted by Gary Stokes and Mark Vine who will remain on the team as Assistant Coaches.

To complete the structure we will be looking to appoint a third team/social development coach who will work with the less experienced/ambitious third team players and return to play/social players much as Matt Marriot has for the past couple of years. This will be an important role in developing basic skill levels of inexperienced players, providing a route into rugby for those not striving for first team rugby and be a focus for maintaining and increasing third team playing numbers. We are yet to find this person but hope to in the near future.

To start the season we would like to invite all players to a meeting and social evening at the club on Friday 29th June. Full details will follow for the evening but please make every effort to attend and please forward on to anyone you know who is back from university this year or thinking about coming back to play. We will then start pre-season training on the 5th July. In the meantime you can be doing one of a few things;

 1. Rehab and recover from your injuries
 2. Stay/get fit with a programme designed for your role within rugby
 3. Enjoy your summer months and let your body and mind recover so that you are
ready to hit it hard in July!
