The Templars invitation sevens team was formed in the
summer of 2002 to fulfil a commitment to play in the
Emirates Airlines Dubai 7's of that year (the team taking
its name from the place of work of the teams founders, the
Inns of Court of Inner and Middle Temple). Since that date
the team has reformed every year to return to this IRB
dessert classic and test their skills against the social
elite of the world. Following recent successes in Dubai, a
growing player base and of course wanting more excuses to
party; the Templars have expanded their crusade and joined
the UK sevens circuit.
Successes at Worthing, Somerset, Hendon and Herts and good
showings at Newcastle, London City, Nottingham, Harpenden
and Oakmedians have proved this to be a highly successful
venture with the team developing a reputation for good
sevens, top quality stash and great partying. Much like
the Templars of old the squad is made up of players from
far and wide: Guillaume Schueller (Toulouse & Sale),
Felise Ah-Ling (Auckland), Benna Hydenrich (South Africa
Province), Scott Donald (Rotherham & New Zealand
representative), Matias Albina (Argentina & Barking), Seva
Rokobaro (Fiji & Barking) as well as more home grown
talent: Tom May (Newcastle & England), Steve Drake (London
Irish & Henley), Rob Cain (Waikato U21 & Wasps A), Sam
Cain (Waikato U21), Leeroy Starling (London Irish & Esher)
Sam Caven (England U18 & Henley), Jake Hirst (Blaydon &
Henley), Douglas Roberts (Boroughmuir), James Bramwell
(Leicester Tigers) and Captain Mike Couser (Harlequins &
Barking).
Unfortunately due to club commitments this weekend the
Templars will be depleted of many of their stars, but
should still prove to be a force to be reckoned with both
on and off the pitch.
