East Grinstead improve in 2nd half but not enough to get back into game

Hastings and Bexhill RFC

Sunday 21th October 2007

With the effects of half term, the visiting team came with insufficient numbers for a full 12 against 12 match so both reverted to 3 on 3 scrums and 10 players on each team. East Grinstead were missing many of their usual forward pack but still expected to do well against visitors how did not look particularly big. However, the players Hastings & Bexhill had were very effective and gave the home side a demonstration in fast rucking, strong running and quick aggressive defence.

Despite an improvement in the work rate and committment in the second half there was not much self belief remaining that East Grinstead could overcome a substantial first half deficit in points. Key learning points hear were: we must compete for the ball at rucks and we must not wait for the attack to come to us.

The final score was 8 tries to 0 against East Grinstead.
