With four weeks to go before our weekend of Sevens the pace is building to make this tournament even better than last years!

Here's how the weekend programme looks:

Friday 25th April Schools Tag Tournament featuring local schools, years 5 & 6. Please select Friday Games to view the schedule for the day. (First KO 1.30)
 
Saturday 26th April Main Ladies Senior Event, (First KO 2.00)

The Girls event will feature two age groups - Under 15's, and Under 18's this will start at 10.30am.

There will also be a Boys Under 15 Tens Tournament - which will also KO at 2.00pm

 
Sunday 27th April Senior Men's Tournament - for the Lady Astor of Hever Trophy (First games at 11.00am) 32 Teams - Main and Plate Competition.

On Saturday - The Ladies Tournament for the Steve Cairns Trophy This year we are expecting 12 Teams in the Tournament. We have an International flavour with the Norwegian Barbarians coming over. They will be complimented by the Free Spirit Rugby Babes - who are made up Fijian Invitation players. Certainly plenty of competition for last year s winners The Pink Baa Baas - and our own East Grinstead girls

The girls sides will be running two age categories this year. Under 15's and Under 18's with the competion starting at 10.30 and will run until approximately 2pm.

Sunday - The 51 Sunshine Men's Senior Tournament

The first major Tournament of the Sevens circuit has attracted one of the strongest fields we have had at the Sunshine Sevens.

2007 Winners

Leading the field are the field of 32 teams will be The British Army - led by Howard Graham we welcome back one of the best Sevens sides in the country who gave us a fantastic display of how the game should be played, beating Suzi's Saloon 50-12 in the Final last year.

Again this year we have managed to attract some serious competition for the Army in the shape of the Kaiviti Crusaders, led by Fiji International and Leicester Tiger Seru Rabeni.

Another one of Tigers' World Cup contingent, Seru is powerful centre or winger. He finished 2006/07 with five tries in 21 appearances and was a member of the starting XV in both the Guinness Premiership and Heineken Cup. You may have seen him score against Wasps in Cup Semi at Twickenham!!

Kukri Not only will we be playing for the prestigious Trophies but our Prize sponsor Kukri will be providing a fullest of individually deigned shirts for the Winners and other prizes. Pennyfarthing We also have again the Player of the Tournament Award - (Pennyfarthing Jewellers) An Oris watch valued at £600! Plenty of candidates this year.

Last year we were lucky enough to have Top referee Wayne Barnes before he went off to the World Cup. What a Tournament and year from him. We have great pleasure in welcoming Wayne back.

Finally I need from each team a Profile of the Team - History - Tournaments won - Players to watch. This we need for programme and to put on the website. I do need these by the 10th April. Also please keep an eye on the website for updates on Teams - draw etc. I will also follow up with my usual calls etc.

Our other Key event to support the Sevens is our annual Golf Day and Auction - a great Day out. This year it will be at Chartham Park on Friday 1st August. Get it in you Diary - a day not to be missed.
