Team Profiles

Hove

Colours: Sky Blue and Maroon

The Club was founded in 1933 by members of the Sussex Yeomanry, a territorial army regiment. The Club became Hove Rugby Club shortly after the Second World War. Originally playing in East Brighton Park they transferred to "the hut" in Hove Park in 1952. The Club regularly ran four senior sides and from 1961 used pitches at Neville Road to supplement the main pitch in Hove Park. The Club built a new clubhouse in 1976 beside the 1st XV pitch alongside the "hut" which subsequently burnt down. The pitch was levelled in 1971 and the Club continued to grow, particularly with the introduction of a mini section in 1974. One of the first mini sections in the county.

The Club moved to its current location in Hove Recreation Ground in September 2003, having levelled three of the four pitches. The new clubhouse stands alongside some older Council changing rooms in the middle of the four pitches, one of which is flood lit. The Senior Club now fields six men's teams and a Women's XV. The 1st XV play in London SE 4 and the Women in SE 1. In the junior section of the Club there are two teams for most age groups. The youth teams are regular County Champions and our Colts have just become County Champions having beaten Brighton last week.

Hove did win the Sunshine Sevens Plate in 2005 and look forward to competing and going one better this year
